Kontarsky, Aloys
Kontarsky, Aloys, German pianist and pedagogue, brother of Alfons Kontarsky and Bernhard Kontarsky; b. Iserlohn, Westphalia, May 14, 1931. He studied piano with Else Schmitz-Gohr and Maurits Frank at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik (1952–55) and with Eduard Erdmann in Hamburg (1955–57). With his brother Alfons, he won 1st prize for duo-piano playing at the Bavarian Radio Competition in Munich (1955); thereafter they made tours throughout the world, specializing in contemporary music. He taught master classes at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik (from 1969).
