Markova, Dame Alicia
Markova, Dame Alicia (1910– ) English ballerina, b. Lilian Alicia Marks. She joined the Vic-Wells Ballet in 1931, and was its first prima ballerina. Classical ballets in which she excelled include Giselle, Les Sylphides, and Swan Lake. In 1963 she became a Dame of the British Empire.
