Colombo, Pierre
Colombo, Pierre, Swiss conductor; b. La Tour-de-Peilz, May 22, 1914. He received training in piano, voice, and flute, and also pursued studies in science at the Univ. of Lausanne. He studied conducting at the Basel Cons, (diploma, 1942), his principal mentors being Scherchen and H. Munch; he also studied with Krauss. He conducted choral groups and in 1950 founded the Geneva Chamber Orch. After conducting the Johannesburg (South Africa) Sym. Orch. (from 1953), he was an administrator with the Geneva Radio (from 1955). He also appeared as a guest conductor throughout Europe.
