Dubois, Léon
Dubois, Léon, Belgian conductor and composer; b. Brussels, Jan. 9,1859; d. Boitsfort, Nov. 19,1935. He won the Prix de Rome at the Brussels Cons, in 1885. He conducted opera at the Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels (1890–97), was director of the Louvain Music School (1899–1912), and then director of the Brussels Cons. (1912–26). He wrote the operas Son Excellence ma femme (1884), La Revanche de Sganarelle (1886), Edenie (Antwerp, March 7, 1912), and Vers la gloire (Brussels, March 28, 1919), as well as a ballet, Smylis (Brussels, 1891), the mimodrama La Mort (Brussels, 1894), and chamber music.
