Errani, Achille
Errani, Achille, Italian tenor and vocal pedagogue;b. Faenza, Aug. 1823; d. N.Y., Jan. 6, 1897. He was trained by Vaccai at the Milan Cons. After appearances throughout Italy, Spain, and Greece, he joined Maretzek’s Italian Opera Co. in Havana in 1858. In 1860 he made his U.S. debut as Verdi’s Alfredo in Philadelphia, and toured widely with Maretzek’s company until the end of the Civil War, when he settled in N.Y. as a teacher. Among his many students were Emma Abbott, Minnie Hauk, Clara Louise Kellogg, and Emma Thursby. His death from a heart attack followed a suicide-murder attempt involving a domestic in his household and her lover.
