Gasparini, Francesco
Gasparini, Francesco (b Camaiore, 1668; d Rome, 1727). It. composer. Choirmaster at Venice 1701–13, engaging Vivaldi as vn. teacher; choirmaster St Lorenzo in Lucina, Rome, 1717–25; choirmaster St John Lateran, Rome, from 1725 but did not assume post because of illness. Wrote oratorios, cantatas, church mus., and many operas, incl. Amleto (1705) which is not based on Shakespeare's play. Wrote treatise (1708) on hpd. acc.
