Havingha, Gerhardus
Havingha, Gerhardus, Dutch organist and music theorist; b. Groningen, Nov. 15, 1696; d. Alkmaar, March 6, 1753. He studied with his father, a church organist at Groningen, and then became an organist at various churches in the Netherlands. He publ. Oor-spronk en Voortgang der orgelen (Alkmaar, 1727; reprinted 1973), an apologia defending his reconstruction of the Alkmaar organ utilizing equal temperament. He publ. a vol. of Suites for Harpsichord (Amsterdam, 1724; ed. by J. Watelet in Monumenta Musicae Byzantinae, VII, 1951).
