Lauska, Franz (Seraphinus Ignatius)
Lauska, Franz (Seraphinus Ignatius), Bohemian pianist, teacher, and composer; b. Brunn, Jan. 13, 1764; d. Berlin, April 18, 1825. He studied in Vienna with Albrechtsberger, and was a chamber musician in Munich. From 1794 to 1798 he taught in Copenhagen. He settled in Berlin in 1798, becoming a teacher at the court and numbering among his pupils Meyerbeer. He wrote 24 sonatas (Grande sonate, Sonate pathétique, etc.), Cello Sonata, pieces for Piano, 4-hands (6 Easy and Agreeable Pieces, Polonaise, etc.), variations for 2-hands, rondos, etc.
