Lhéritier, Jean
Lhéritier, Jean, French composer; b. c. 1480; d. after 1552. He studied with Josquin Des Prez. He was active at the Estense court in Ferrara (1506–8), and later was capellanus and maestro di cappella at Rome’s St.-Louis-des-Français (1521–22). Cardinal François de Clermont, the papal legate in Avignon, was his major patron, and Lhéritier received several benefices. He was a particularly notable composer of motets. L. Perkins ed. his Opera omnia in Corpus Mensurabilis Musicae, XLVIII/1-2 (1969).
