Mahaut, Antoine
Mahaut, Antoine, Netherlands flutist and composer; b. c. 1720; d. c. 1785. He was active in Amsterdam from about 1737, and also made visits to Paris and Dresden. About 1760 he fled his creditors in Amsterdam, and settled in a French monastery. Mahaut excelled as a composer of symphonies and works for the flute, and also publ, a valuable flute method, Nieuwe manier om binnen körten tijd de dwarsfluit te leeren speelen-...nieuwe druk (Amsterdam, 1759; Fr. tr., 1759).
