Tajćević, Marko
Tajćević, Marko Serbian choral conductor, music critic, teacher, and composer; b. Osijek, Jan. 29, 1900; d. Belgrade, July 19, 1984. He studied in Zagreb, Prague, and Vienna. In 1945 he was appointed a prof, at the Belgrade Academy of Music, retiring in 1966. He was primarily a folklore composer and was at his best in his sacred and secular choral works derived from regional folk songs. He also wrote songs and piano pieces, including 7 Balkan Dances for Piano (1927), a set of brilliant stylizations of Serbian melorhythms.
