ADNOMINAL. In contemporary GRAMMAR, a word or phrase that modifies a NOUN and forms part of a noun phrase. Adnominals may precede or follow their nouns: ‘her new house’, ‘the little red book’, ‘a library book’, ‘the manager's book’, ‘a book about dinosaurs’, ‘a book to read’, ‘a book (that) I've been meaning to read’.
