IMMACULATE CONCEPTION, DAUGHTERS OF MARY OF THE
(D.M., Official Catholic Directory #0860), a congregation founded in New Britain, Conn., in 1904 by the Rev. Lucian Bojnowski. Wishing to help orphaned children and at the same time to commemorate in a special way the golden jubilee (1904) of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, Bojnowski gathered together a group of devout sodalists of his parish and formed the nucleus of the community. The sisters adopted royal blue for the color of their habit and the miraculous medal as their official emblem. In 1939 the congregation was raised to the status of a pontifical institute. The sisters are concentrated in the Middle Atlantic states. The generalate is in New Britain, CT.
