SIMON, ARYEH
SIMON, ARYEH (1913– ), Israeli educator. Simon was born in Mainz, Germany and studied classical languages and philosophy at Heidelberg. Immigrating to Israel in 1935, he studied education and began to teach at the *Ben Shemen youth village in 1937. He served in the Jewish Brigade of the British Army in World War ii and as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces in the War of Independence. After the war he devoted himself to education and was appointed director of Ben Shemen in 1964. In 1975 he was awarded the Israel Prize for education.
