solenostele
solenostele The most highly developed type of protostele; it is found in Selaginella, often arranged as a polystele. In ferns, and occasionally in Selaginella, the solenostele is amphiphloic, differing from amphiphloic siphonostele in the absence of a pith, instead encompassing endodermal cells (see ENDODERMIS). In ferns, leaf gaps may occur, in which case the solenostele may become a reticulate network and, therefore, be termed a dictyostele. Compare ACTINOSTELE, HAPLOSTELE, and HYPOPHLOIC HAPLOSTELE.
