Grand Hotel
Grand Hotel ★★★½ 1932
A star-filled cast is brought together by unusual circumstances at Berlin's Grand Hotel and their lives become hopelessly intertwined over a 24 hour period. Adapted (and given the red-carpet treatment) from a Vicki Baum novel; notable mostly for Garbo's world-weary ballerina. Time has taken its toll on the concept and treatment, but still an interesting star vehicle. 112m/B VHS, DVD . Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Lewis Stone, Wallace Beery, Jean Hersholt, Lionel Barrymore; D: Edmund Goulding; C: William H. Daniels. Oscars ‘32: Picture, Natl. Film Reg. ‘07.
