Prince of Foxes
Prince of Foxes ★½ 1949
In 16thcentury Italy, rascally Orsini (Power) is sent by his boss, the powerhungry Cesare Borgia (Welles), to seduce Camilla (Hendrix), the insipid young wife of an old duke (Aylmer), and turn the town over to the Borgias. But Orsini likes Count Varano and decide to switch sides, which doesn't please his now exboss. The story is plodding, the dialogue is deadly, and although it's lavishly picturesque (and filmed on location), it's a shame that Fox didn't shoot the film in Technicolor. Based on the novel by Samuel Shellabarger. 107m/B DVD . Tyrone Power, Orson Welles, Wanda Hendrix, Felix Aylmer, Everett Sloane, Marina Berti, Katina Paxinou; D: Henry King; W: Milton Krims; C: Leon Shamroy; M: Alfred Newman.
