Gorin, Igor
Gorin, Igor, Russian-born American baritone; b. Grodek, Ukraine, Oct. 26, 1908; d. Tucson, Ariz., March 24, 1982. His family moved to Vienna after the Russian Revolution, where he studied medicine and music. He entered the Cons., graduating in 1930, then made his professional operatic debut at the Volksoper the same year. In 1933 he went to the U.S., becoming a naturalized citizen in 1939. He launched a successful career as a radio singer, without forsaking his operatic ambitions. He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. as Germont pere in La Traviata (Feb. 10, 1964). In his last years he taught voice at the Univ. of Ariz, in Tucson.
