Pagliardi, Giovanni Maria
Pagliardi, Giovanni Maria, Italian composer; b. Genoa, 1637; d. Florence, Dec. 3,1702. He entered the priesthood and served as maestro di cappella at the church of the Gesù in Genoa, to the Grand Duke of Tuscany, at S. Lorenzo in Florence, at the Tuscan court (from 1681), and at the Florence Cathedral (from 1701). He wrote several operas, the most successful being Caligula deleriante (Venice, Dec. 18, 1672), an oratorio, chamber cantatas, motets, arias, and spiritual madrigals.
