Viking space mission
Viking space mission (1976) US space project to investigate conditions on Mars. Two spacecraft, Viking 1 and Viking 2, each attached to separate vehicles that orbited the planet, made the first successful landings on Mars. They transmitted much information back to Earth, including dramatic photographs of the surface. See also space exploration
