Tamil ruler of the Chola Empire in southern India who conquered large areas and conducted extensive foreign trade. Son of Rajaraja I (r. 985-1014), Rajendra extended Chola rule as far north as the Ganges River, and traded with Hindu lands in Southeast Asia.
