American playwright. Born May 25, 1953, in New York, NY; graduate of Middlebury College, 1975; m. Richard McDermott, 1978 (div. 1988); children: (legally adopted stepson) actor Dylan McDermott.
Interviewed more than 200 women worldwide, then wrote and performed The Vagina Monologues, for which she won an Obie (1997); also wrote Floating Rhoda and the Glue Man (1993), The Depot, Ladies and Necessary Targets.
