Japanese novelist. Born 1914 in Tokyo, Japan; married.
Wrote Fresh Produce Mart, which won the Akutagawa Prize (1941); other writings include Paradise, Suzaki (1954), River Sumida (1961), The Eighth Building in Marunouchi (1962), Twilight on the River Sumida (1984), which won the Prize for Japanese Literature, and Dancing Snow (1987), which won the Mainichi Prize.
